Margate Visit - Turner Gallery, Margate Caves and Shell Grotto
My visit to the Turner gallery was a little underwhelming but that was due to the construction work going on now. One thing that really stood out to me was Anne Ryan’s sculptural work, she used very expressive colours and forms to create these amazing sculptures in the pictures above I have zoomed in on moments I found interesting and another thing that amazed me is her use of scrap materials using materials she found and painted over them, that whole idea/concept of being ‘sustainable’.

This photo really stood out to me as the tour guide at the time was shining his UV torch which allowed me to see the art piece without it I would have not. This man figure was apparently an actual man who was 7ft tall called Richard Joy. “He was intimidating enough figure on land but soon turned to a life on the ocean wave and became a smuggler. He drowned at sea in 1742 and was brought back to be buried in Broadstairs.” – Information Board at Margate Caves.
