As I have already done a design project for those who are partially sighted/ blind Agata suggested to look into a different community within disabilities. It would be a great opportunity to broaden my knowledge and do something outside my comfort zone.

Surface Design Show:

On this day I also went to visit the surface design show to get more information on the new products/suppliers out there. It was a very interesting day and got to know new suppliers and their products and designs.

Visually Impaired Community (developing third year)

In the UK 2 million people are estimated to be living with sight loss. An estimated 37,00 blind & partially sighted children and young people in England and Wales. à every day, four more children will be diagnosed with sight loss.

The leading cause of visual impairment in the UK, are ‘age-related, muscular degeneration, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy’

Which group is blindness most common in the UK? Around 60% of people living with sight loss are women. Women have a higher life expectancy and higher age-specific prevalence of leading causes of sight loss in older age.

Visual impairment/sight loss is one of the commonest causes of disability in the UK.
