Response back from Christopher Laing!

Set up a meeting for the 6th April at 3pm, I have spoken with Rachel Smith who is Chris's BSL interpreter who will be present during the zoom meeting. I sent over a copy of the work I want to present so she has time to familiarise herself with and a few questions I would like to ask Chris.

Contacting Christopher Laing:

I went on his Instagram but unfortunately was not able to contact him there as I would have to wait for him to accept my request. So, I researched deeper and found that he works at Hayworth Tompkins Architect based in Kentish Town.

I sent them an email regarding my project, just waiting a response.

Still awaiting a response from Chris, in the meantime I have contacted my uncle to see if he would be willing to be the BSL interpreter for the video call if things proceed.

Design Number 4 is the main DO I will work with:

Whilst making a start to the number 4 layout I realised I will need a lot more space to use for the stair design, this was managed fine. However, the complication of the lift position arose – if I place it here it will be very different to what I had originally sketched out, but it will work in terms of the existing roof and head space.

Another suggestion....

My original sketch plan was like this – it works fine only if I make some roof adjustments. At the moment the roof caves in a little but if my sketch plan wants to work, I would have to alter the roof so that it does not cave in. This will allow the exact room for height in order for the lift location to work alongside the stairs. Also, the idea of a vertical garden going to floor one can still happen.

We have this complication of the current chimney and duct work from the kitchen. As I will not be using the chimney for actual heat, I can move this wall structure down so that it is flush with the new stair design – ultimately this whole can be reconfigured to suit the new design as it won't be needed. It can straighten out to meet the existing line wall.

The ground floor stair wall will be extruded all the way to the first floor to make sure the structure is supported. The current boiler can be re-configured elsewhere if needed.
